Quality Awards
Over the course of more than forty years of business in the ordnance industry TEK ORD has received quality awards from such companies and Olin Ordnance, Honeywell, NASA, and various departments of the Department of Defense.
Six Sigma Program
Technical Ordnance utilizes the Six Sigma philosophy on projects selected by upper management and/or customer requirements. Technical Ordnance has Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Certified Six Sigma Green Belt personnel.
Continuous Improvement Employee Certification Program
In conjunction with the Six Sigma Certification Program is the Continuing Improvement Employee Certification Program of achieving certifications from the American Society of Quality (ASQ). Individuals must achieve a certification or equivalent in their area of responsibility.
Receiving, In-Process, and Final Inspectors are required to achieve a Certified Mechanical Inspector Certification (CMI).
Quality Technicians are required to achieve a Certified Quality Improvement Associate Certification (CQIA) and/or Certified Quality Auditor Certification (CQA).
Calibration Technicians are required to achieve a Certified Calibration Technician (CCT).
Quality Engineers are required to achieve a Quality Engineer Certification (CQE).
Quality Assurance Manager is required to achieve a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification and/or Certified Quality Manager Certification (CQM).
Inspection Capabilities
Technical Ordnance has over forty years experience inspecting numerous systems involving explosives (boosters, detonators, impulse cartridges, pellets, tracers, primers, explosive bolts, detonating cords, fuzes and arming devices). In many cases this has meant involvement from engineering development through first article and production.
Our Inspection personnel have an excellent working knowledge of explosives and understand the critical areas that may affect performance of the units. In areas of inspection from Receiving, In-Process, Final, Testing and Packaging, they follow Inspection Plans that clearly define the type and extent of inspection to be performed.
In the environmentally controlled inspection areas, all levels of inspection can be performed. Following is a list of some of the equipment utilized by our inspection personnel.
- Optical Gaging (Smartscope)
- Height Stands
- Scales
- Thread Rings/Plugs
- Dial Indicators
- Pressure Gages
- Hardness Tester
- Bore Gages
- Profilometers
- Calipers
- Test Indicators
- X-Ray Machines
- Microscopes
- Plug Gages
- Pressure Mics
- Force Gages
When necessary special inspection equipment is designed by Quality Engineering and manufactured by Technical Ordnance's Machine Shop.
Test Capabilities
At the beginning of each program where testing is involved, the Test Lab Supervisor and Project Engineer develop an extensive test plan that describes step by step the type of testing to be performed. This includes listing all equipment, fixturing and supplies to be used during the tests. The plan details all environmental conditioning required in preparation for the tests both as part of First Article and Lot Acceptance Testing.
Following is a partial list of testing capabilities currently in place at Technical Ordnance.
- Salt Fog
- Jolt
- 40 Foot Drop
- Altitude Chamber
- Vibration Facility

Training and Certification of Personnel
Technical Ordnance maintains a training program for product quality, calibration, manufacturing and other personnel who have an effect upon, or who are responsible for, the determination of product quality. This program includes a method of measuring the proficiency of personnel completing the course. Training needs are continually assessed to determine requirements for additional training, when special skills are required in the manufacture, inspection and processing of products.
Technical Ordnance deploys a regimented certification program in cooperation with the American Society of Quality (ASQ) and the local universities. Examples of certifications achieved are Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), and many more.
