Pyrotechnic Cutters, Separation Nuts and Bolts

CED has significant expertise in the design, development, testing and production of Separation nuts, bolts, and cutters. These devices are used for “hold-and-release” or severing mechanisms. This expertise requires an in-depth understanding of dynamics and propellant combustion/thermo-fluids, as well as the material deformation/fracture and detonation mechanics.

CED’s pyrotechnic cutters have been manufactured for various commercial and military applications, including Drone Launch and Recovery, Release Mechanisms, and Reefing Line Cutters. Each of the cutters is available with or without a time delay.

CED designs and develops low shock, highly reliable separation nuts and bolts for applications in launch vehicle, satellite, and payload systems. CED separation nuts and bolts are used today in systems for attach and release of payloads, and stores and booster motors. CED separation nuts vary in size from ¼ inch to 1 ½ inch bolt sizes. Input for a separation nut can be provided by standard initiators, gas output from a transfer lines, or pneumatic pressure from other sources.
